Telling My Stories and Discovering Your Stories

23 Days Until Christmas

So it was, that while Zacharias was serving as priest before God ... his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense.

Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Luke 1:8-17 NKJV

I enjoy your comments. And I want you to enjoy reading each other's comments. To that end purpose, I moderate comments. If you're impatient, MeeboMe.

Commenting Ideas
  • If you do not have a blog or site, skip the "web site" line, pull a name or "handle" out of your head, write a note, push the button. (No excuses!)
  • If this entry reminds you of a story of a similar place in time in your life, you are welcome to tell your story.
  • If you discover your story is taking more than 3 or 4 paragraphs (and if you have a place on the web for your writings), I will not be insulted if you take your story back and finish it at your own site. But then I will be disappointed if you don't come back and leave me a summary of your story and a link -- in the comments.
  • If you have already written a story about a similar place in time, please feel free to leave a summary and a link.
  • It's never too late to make a comment or tell a story.

I popped over here from Oddmix just to check you out and thought I would like to share this with you.

I'm not Catholic, but my best friend is. I was told I would never have any children and honestly it was a source of great sadness to me for many years. My friend gave me a small card once with the exact passage on it you have quoted above. I was never sure why, but I suppose it was her way of telling me not to give up hope.

I used to take it out and look at it, I stop short of saying I prayed on it, but I would consider it, this story and wonder why I was being denied.
And the years passed and the card frayed but I still went back to it from time to time.

On the day I took the blood test to see if I was pregnant, I parked on Elizabeth street next to the lab. The nurse who took my information's name was Elizabeth and the nurse who drew my blood's name was Beth.

And I was pregnant.
With a boy.

I don't know how much divine intervention was involved.......but it was one of the most magical days of my life.

I love that story.

I love the story that Gidge told. What a miracle!

I also really love this picture. Can you tell us a little more about where it was taken?

Hey Mary! I'm glad you're enjoying these. And I love that Gidge added her story. It made me realize I need to add more conditioning around here so that people know they're welcome to post their story.

This was taken at a bed and breakfast in Independence Kansas. Let me do some research and I'll post the name of the place with today's entry. If they are still open, it was a very fantastic place that I would love to go back and visit.

Well I searched around and I came up with the name: Glencliff Farm Bed & Breakfast

I can't find any proof that they really exist any longer. There's lots of listings on those sites that like to create b&b listings ... but their own web site is down. I called the phone number but I didn't get an answer. I left a message even though the answering machine didn't say I was calling Glencliff Farm ... so we'll see if I get a call back.

My website is largely my memoir ... my musings, photos, encounters, life's stories.

But what really thrills me is that when I let go of my stories, it's like sending out little sail boats out on expeditions. Very often they come back to me filled with other people's stories. Continue...
