Musings & Memories Montage
Telling My Stories and Discovering Your Stories

Thanks & Do You Really want to Know?
06/16/07

:~) Ya'll are incredible! I don't know what else to say.

You have no idea what it means to me to know there are such gracious women in my life.

(Okay and there was also this guy who came from Second Life and read my blog and came back to me in SL and said, "You have impact. Go write.")

Yes, Terri, I have been in Second Life a lot. It's kind of becoming my whole Internet.

Of course, in SL I'm not much different than in RL (Real Life), I've started a networking group ... and I've actually sold a few of my images at about $1.25usd each. And I've ended up giving a whole lot of advice.

At first my avatar seemed to be carrying around a sign that said "ask me geeky questions." Now, she also seems to be carrying around a sign that says "ask me relationship questions." And the other night a "ask me business questions" sign popped up right over her head.

I wish ya'll were in world. It is so much fun.

It's not stable at all -- not the software, nor the society, nor the financial structure. The communication techniques are IM's and "notecards." It feels very archaic.

But ... I am convinced it is like the future will be. It is like the Internet that ya'll will also live in shortly.

I have trouble bouncing back and forth between the two worlds -- the two different kinds of Internet -- not Second Life and Real Life. That is very hard to put words to ... but right now I feel like I have to flip something in my brain.

Like ... I forget I have normal email! And writing my blog about random thoughts seems ... odd ... It seems out of sync ...

OH! OH! I think I know a lot of the reason. In SL almost everything is conversation. Static information in SL is nearly non-existent in formats that people pay attention to -- one reason is that formats available for static information in SL are absolutely horrendous. BUT it's like the old days of AOL ... people are talking to people mostly through IM's and totally loving the connection ...

So when I come and try to just write something to impress ... it feels flat.

Sooooo ... since ya'll are obviously a chatty bunch ... I'm going to be more conversational in my posts. Instead of just replying in comments ... I'm going to try writing more of my posts as replies. See?

And so ... anyway ... here's my question ... Do you really want to know about my adventures in Second Life (and how they are very much impacting my "Real Life")?

Yes, I know ya'll kind of gave me permission before ... but does it really interest you as much as say ... uhh err ... the fact that we went to Long Island last weekend?

I'm not asking which one is more interesting. I'm asking is one as interesting as the other?

Ok and no we are not going to analyze why I am asking because we know that in the end it's my blog and I have to decide.

Still, I love to hear ya'lls thoughts.

I enjoy your comments. And I want you to enjoy reading each other's comments. To that end purpose, I moderate comments. If you're impatient, MeeboMe.

Commenting Ideas
  • If you do not have a blog or site, skip the "web site" line, pull a name or "handle" out of your head, write a note, push the button. (No excuses!)
  • If this entry reminds you of a story of a similar place in time in your life, you are welcome to tell your story.
  • If you discover your story is taking more than 3 or 4 paragraphs (and if you have a place on the web for your writings), I will not be insulted if you take your story back and finish it at your own site. But then I will be disappointed if you don't come back and leave me a summary of your story and a link -- in the comments.
  • If you have already written a story about a similar place in time, please feel free to leave a summary and a link.
  • It's never too late to make a comment or tell a story.

Yes, you must write about everything.

Just because you found a Second Life doesn't mean you can get out of writing about it or your First Life.

That's cool you sold some pictures!

I want to see pictures of Long Island!

Now I know why You don't call or e-mail--you're so busy in SL. Yes, I'm interested in ALL your lives. Love, JoAn

Pam, Sorry it has taken me so long to get back on this one. I say, whatever you want to write about is what I want to hear about. I think you will always find a way to make something interesting whether or not it is something I know about or am involved in. You have an introspective nature and I think you will bring out of SL the commonalities of man, not just what makes SL different.

Pam,
I agree with Mary. I'm interested in whatever you write about! Which reminds me ... I need to write. I've either been on a vacation and unconnected or I've been visiting and commenting on others blogs. I'm just not a very consistent person!

My website is largely my memoir ... my musings, photos, encounters, life's stories.

But what really thrills me is that when I let go of my stories, it's like sending out little sail boats out on expeditions. Very often they come back to me filled with other people's stories. Continue...
