Weekend Words: Start & Again
01/29/07

I watched the snow start to fall ...

And remembered again the magic of white ...

We recently had our first day with snow. It did not last long. The dog is my dog Shelbie.

I enjoy your comments. And I want you to enjoy reading each other's comments. To that end purpose, I moderate comments. If you're impatient, MeeboMe.

Commenting Ideas
  • If you do not have a blog or site, skip the "web site" line, pull a name or "handle" out of your head, write a note, push the button. (No excuses!)
  • If this entry reminds you of a story of a similar place in time in your life, you are welcome to tell your story.
  • If you discover your story is taking more than 3 or 4 paragraphs (and if you have a place on the web for your writings), I will not be insulted if you take your story back and finish it at your own site. But then I will be disappointed if you don't come back and leave me a summary of your story and a link -- in the comments.
  • If you have already written a story about a similar place in time, please feel free to leave a summary and a link.
  • It's never too late to make a comment or tell a story.

Beautifully imaged and beautifully said.

~ Thanks. I really been surprised by how much I enjoy holding the words in my mind for a few days and then seeing how my mind mixes them up with my images. Between my eyes and my monitor, I'm never sure I've presented the image correctly. Right now I'm just aiming for "close enough." ~pam
I love the white tree shot!

There's something amazing about a snowfall blanketing everything in white. Gorgeous.

~ Thanks! I'm hoping for another show fall and another trip to the cemetery! ~pam

Lovely photos. I've learned that I would much rather look at photos of the snow than actually be out in it. I guess my California roots are showing!

For some reason, the graveyard ones seem especially poignant to me.

~ Thanks. I have Texas roots. It is very hard to convince me to go out in the snow -- unless I have my camera. The graveyard has graves in it that are over 200 yrs old. It just slays me. There are other graveyards here that go even further back. But they are so common place up here that there are old family graveyards just literally being swallowed up by the swamp. ~pam

Shelbie looks soo beautifully red against the white! I miss her.

I too love the tree shot - gorgeous!

I've been trying to get our snow pictures up. I tried Slide but i can't get a code to work with wordpress. I'm going to try OneTrueMedia next and then flickr.

~ Well the only hint I can give you is that maybe a paragraph or line break is hiding itself away in the code ... OH or ... try making sure you are in the HTML view when you paste it in. That's the only way I can get Xanga to co-operate.

I have some shots down by the swamp that don't have Shelbie in them ... but they are terrifically boring next to the two that have her in them.

Ok well have fun

Shelbie looks like a beautiful, wild fox who wandered into civilization for a tiny visit for an afternoon. Wonderful photos, almost makes me wish I was in the snow myself (amazing for a sunshine sort of girl!).

:-)

She's mostly a Finnish Spitz. When she curls up to sleep, she looks very foxy. They are hunters ... and believe me ... anything with four legs gets NO respect from her unless it's substantially larger AND stays out of her way. But with people, she's great! I think I would like to have another when she's gone plus my husband wants a Great Swiss Mountain dog.

The snow thus far has been very well behaved. Shows up and then leaves in less than 24 hrs. And it's usually very sunny after it snows.

Thanks for stopping by. I have to run now and I'll be gone all day tomorrow so I'll drop by your blog on Friday. I've been wondering how stuff is for you.

ttyl,
pam

These pictures are beautiful! I agree with Sari in that Shelbie looks like a fox.

Brrrrr... does one ever get used to snow and winters like that if you didn't grow up with them? I'm freezing right now...

~ LOL! You sound just like me! I could never imagine living where it dropped (for more than five days) below freezing! But Billy kept telling me ... "It's all about layers and you really do get use to it!"

Well ... I've been amazed ... it really is just as he said. I really don't think much of it if we're walking home from the train in 18 degree weather. About 1/2 mile into it I'm loosening my hood and maybe undoing my coat zipper a bit. Depends on if there's a wind. However! If there's a strong wind, you can bet we're calling a cab!

As to the snow, it really hasn't been a big deal yet.

My website is largely my memoir ... my musings, photos, encounters, life's stories.

But what really thrills me is that when I let go of my stories, it's like sending out little sail boats out on expeditions. Very often they come back to me filled with other people's stories. Continue...
