Telling My Stories and Discovering Your Stories

WhiteCrow Walking
09/12/06

Sometimes when I go out Internet wandering, I come across stories so personal, so honest, I feel I should feel embarrassed for eavesdropping ... although anyone who knows me will tell you that eavesdropping is one of my top talents. I can't help myself in restaurants ... if the story is even mediocre. On the web, I am more likely to skip over the mediocre ones.

WhiteCrow Walking (aka Jesse) is more than interesting, he is vulnerable. I feel like I came across his open door just when it would have, under normal conditions, been closed. But Jesse is not choosing normal conditions.

Jesse happened along just in time to remind me of me ... just in time to remind me that I have stories to tell ... stories to collect ... just in time to remind me that there is still someone restless inside of Billy and me ... to remind me that I'd better write while the sitting still is good.

Jesse's writing challenged me to remember ... while I mostly still can.

You can follow Jesse's newest trek at his blog WhiteCrow Walking. You can find out more about who Jesse is (and his first walk) at WhiteCrowWalking.com.

Jesse's blog entry about Kathleen and Kathleen's daughter's response says everything that is good about the Internet. We Don't Cut Ourselves Anymore

I enjoy your comments. And I want you to enjoy reading each other's comments. To that end purpose, I moderate comments. If you're impatient, MeeboMe.

Commenting Ideas
  • If you do not have a blog or site, skip the "web site" line, pull a name or "handle" out of your head, write a note, push the button. (No excuses!)
  • If this entry reminds you of a story of a similar place in time in your life, you are welcome to tell your story.
  • If you discover your story is taking more than 3 or 4 paragraphs (and if you have a place on the web for your writings), I will not be insulted if you take your story back and finish it at your own site. But then I will be disappointed if you don't come back and leave me a summary of your story and a link -- in the comments.
  • If you have already written a story about a similar place in time, please feel free to leave a summary and a link.
  • It's never too late to make a comment or tell a story.

Thank you for your nice thoughts. Of course I am still walking, walking into my third year. I am moving through Bozeman, Montana now with the Rockies getting colder. In another 4-6 months the walk will be coming to a close. Now I wonder if I can stop. I try to remember a life without living in the perpetual unknown. I can't.

~ Well hello! I was just thinking of you the other day. Wondering how you are progressing. Wondering what I'm missing over on your blog. Very very good to see you! ~pam

Hello, I discovered your site via learning about Jesse WhiteCrow. I want to say that I enjoy your blogs---I started out with your photos, as I love photography. Then I clicked on "I love this" and discovered God Tube and got to sing praises to God and play guitar with the Anderson guy-- God Bless and thanks for sharing. Leena
The walk is done. 8,000 miles in less than 3 years. I sit in a heated well lit room working on the book...no, I am sitting here staring at my boots and feeling like I fell down. Some crows are meant to walk.

~ I sent Jesse a note encouraging him to write the same way he walked ... step by step ... one little frame at a time. It will add up to a great tale. ~pam

My website is largely my memoir ... my musings, photos, encounters, life's stories.

But what really thrills me is that when I let go of my stories, it's like sending out little sail boats out on expeditions. Very often they come back to me filled with other people's stories. Continue...
