Musings & Memories Montage
Telling My Stories and Discovering Your Stories

Greetings from Dallas, Texas
05/18/07

Okay so ... yeah ... I am in Dallas. Do you want to know why I am in Dallas? No, actually it has nothing to do with being homesick.

They were classmates in first grade . . .

Providence brought them back together in high school . . .

Undoubtedly [DaddyRay] thought [Mother H]'s beautiful smile and demure way were even more charming than in elementary school . . .

Likely [MotherH] thought [DaddyRay]'s curly hair and blue eyes were as debonair as ever . . .

A few short years after they discreetly held hands on the school bus under a pile of coats. . .

May 1957, before God, they promised to love, honor and cherish . . .

Join us in celebrating a 50 year love affair. . .

The wording: My daughters came up with. I think that part was mostly Daughter S's doing.

The invitation: Daughter VioletKey used her BS to do the invitation design. They made a fantastic creation.

The images: My Daughter S had to break down and tell my parents that they were planning a surprise anniversary party for them ... just to keep them from leaving town. So in the process she also acquired their co-operation.

My additional note: He still smirks like that when he looks at her ... ever so pleased that he caught such a catch!

If you happen to be my parents ... Shhh it's a secret that I'm here and no, I really didn't lie. We really are hoping to come as a unit to visit in September. Billy really isn't here. He really is at the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Training in NY (yes NY, ya'll) and I really would have gone with him if I were there.

And no your daughter-in-law and son did not lie to you ... especially not your daughter-in-law because she really hadn't heard any more about me coming ... from me.

Besides this is huge and it required massaging the truth a little ...

Also, do not call me on the phone tonight. I am asleep. I am delerious.

And, Atypical, I am not using Firefox so there's probably typo's ;-) ... feel normal.

Sooooo ... yeah I'm sure there's questions ... ask. Sometime I'll answer ... I would say tomorrow ... but it seems that for me especially ... tomorrow never comes.

I enjoy your comments. And I want you to enjoy reading each other's comments. To that end purpose, I moderate comments. If you're impatient, MeeboMe.

Commenting Ideas
  • If you do not have a blog or site, skip the "web site" line, pull a name or "handle" out of your head, write a note, push the button. (No excuses!)
  • If this entry reminds you of a story of a similar place in time in your life, you are welcome to tell your story.
  • If you discover your story is taking more than 3 or 4 paragraphs (and if you have a place on the web for your writings), I will not be insulted if you take your story back and finish it at your own site. But then I will be disappointed if you don't come back and leave me a summary of your story and a link -- in the comments.
  • If you have already written a story about a similar place in time, please feel free to leave a summary and a link.
  • It's never too late to make a comment or tell a story.

Here's to 50 years! Tremendous! And, I'm glad you are getting to be there, Pam. I bet it's doing your heart some good.

Blessings upon you all!

P.S. I do love the smirk.

~ Thanks so much!

I remember my Grade 1 class picture. Everyone was smiling, except me. I can't. My mouth was full of corn chips.

That was such a fun party!!!

The wording for the invites was created by DaughterS. I'm soo happy people liked the invites! I was cooking such grandness in my head but had to go simple for time sake - even wanted to tweak that design but S said it was great and we were going with it.

It was good to see you the little bit I did! Maybe I'll get to visit you next.

~ Ya'll pulled the invitations off perfectly.

As to visiting ... Frankly my dear ... I love your idea about the hotel suit ... next time people can come see me! And ... IF I am doing a 3 or 4 day trip, it will be to visit ONE of the family groups. I don't think I can handle another speed visit with everyone.

I loved the party ... but everything else was ... beyond exhausting to take in. One year of visiting with 17 family members divided up into 6 groups crammed into 3 days is beyond exhausting!

And that doesn't even touch what you and Matt went through before / during /after those days. Girl you should need a long long trip to an exceedingly quiet island by now.

How did the surprise go off?

~ OH Mary-LUE ... It was absolutely the best event I have attended ... ever!

I have a photo of my mom with her eyes and mouth wide open in surprise. I got to see ALL of my family. Oldest to youngest! Near and Dear!

For me ... one of the most amazing moments was when my parents lined up their friends and family who had been married 50 years or longer.

EIGHT COUPLES !!

Well, it seems like much longer, but three weeks since we've last heard from you Pam? Hellooo? Hellooo?

~ Hey ... umm weellll uh err ... I didn't think this would ever happen to me but I'm actually having what I think is called writer's block. Or ... exhaustion ... anyway ... I'm taking my artistic me on a field trip tomorrow ... I've decided this. I promise to file a report. ~pam

Hey! Haven't talked to you since you left. Thanks so much for the Starbucks card. We were out of XS Energy Drinks when we arrived home from Valerie's so that came in very handy when going back to work. I finished the card off last Friday afternoon. I got off a bit early and went to Starbucks to read -- a RARE event. I don't know if this matters, but it was actually Uncle Edwin who had to tell Granddaddy and Grandmother about the party and he also obtained the pictures for Valerie and me. If you have a minute, call me and I'll tell you the VERY funny stories from our trip to Portland. While my mother-in-law and brother-in-law did behave for the most part, we are still going alone next time. However, they liked it SO much, Stephen and I will probably have to slip to Oregon when they are out of town. I think we started something. And I am in agreement with you and V -- next time we are getting a hotel room! Her & Matt were SO accommodating, but whew! That it is so many people for one bathroom.

Love you. Talk to you soon.

~ :) I'm glad ya'll had a good time. I'll ck in with you sometime next week. ~pam

My website is largely my memoir ... my musings, photos, encounters, life's stories.

But what really thrills me is that when I let go of my stories, it's like sending out little sail boats out on expeditions. Very often they come back to me filled with other people's stories. Continue...
